The geosite of the amethyst of Auvergne is the major deposit in mainland France. It is also the first in Europe since the end of the 18th century!

Améthyste qui es-tu ?

 

Amethyst: it belongs to the quartz family and is characterized by its purple hues ranging from very light purple to dark purple. Other members of the quartz family are hyaline quartz (colourless), milky quartz (white), pink quartz, citrine (yellow), smoked quartz (dark grey to black), prasiolite (green).
